This garden, the second project ELL had completed for the owners, was created to provide a
shaded outdoor living space and garden beds where they could indulge their hobby for flower
gardening. Old street brick was salvaged for the back patio and stoop to the side entry, giving
the work a seasoned look right from the beginning. Cast, limestone-look retaining walls help bring
the slope from the north ground level front entry down to the south ground level garage drive, a
change of almost 10’. The plantings were chosen for continuous perennial color on the sunny
east side of the house and to bring light to the shady west side using variegated, low light
species.
